Pinterest Party Apron Tutorial

This apron was used as a fun party favor for my Pinterest Party, but it can really be adapted to any fun theme.  The apron is a simple and inexpensive way to add a little flare to an event or just a fun item to make for yourself.

Material needed:
-Home Depot apron
-strip of fabric 6"X36"
-Fabric Glue
-All Purpose Craft Paint
-Decorating item (in this case it was a fabric swatch cut into the Pinterest P)

How To:
These Home Depot Aprons are priced very reasonably at a mere .77 cents, you can buy them in the store or order them here.  I recommend ironing them before starting your project.
The first thing to do is makeover the front square.  Take your All purpose craft paint and paint over the orange square, let this dry according to the instructions on the bottle before advancing to the next step.

Once dry, take your apron and decorate the now painted square.  Some ideas would be to use silk flowers, painting a design or applique.  In this case, I used a fabric cut out to resemble the Pinterest P and coated it with fabric glue.

While this is drying, start work on the ruffle.  Take your long strip of fabric and fold it in half length wise and iron.
Do a gathering stitch along the length of the fabric about .5 inches from the edge.

If you are unfamiliar with a gathering stitch, click here for a great tutorial.  You will be left with something that looks like this.
Now pin your gathered fabric to the back of the bottom of the apron to add a nice ruffle.
Now stitch a straight line just above the bottom of the apron to attach the ruffle and voila, you just completed an awesome apron to hand out at your party!

PINTEREST PARTY!

The Pinterest party had arrived and it could not have been more fun!
The day seemed to rush by and Jackson's nap time was not nearly enough time for me to get everything ready.  The past several days I had been working on all the decorations and a special gifts for all the girls so the house was a disaster.  I spent the morning cleaning and then rushed to get everything decorated.
I put a pretty swag on the front porch.

I made a chalkboard sign to hang on the door.
My favorite decoration had to be the kitchen chandelier with tissue paper pom poms.

The girls arrived and everybody was so excited! We hit up the food first and enjoyed all the new recipes.  It was a great turn out.

The crafting began and we all had great expectations....
We soon realized that there were some kinks to the party that we would definitely need to change before the next one.  For example, we had too many crafts to complete in one night. So maybe next time we would hold a vote for just one or two crafts that everyone would do together.  Or, each person can just bring a craft that they have been wanting to do.  Either way I think would work out better logistically.  However, even with all the hiccups, I don't think we could have laughed harder! We had such a great time.

I made the aprons for each girl to wear, I think they went over well.  Towards the end of the night we were laughing at how the placement of a giant red P might not have been the best.  But then, it was pointed out that the apron with the giant red P could be a great warning flag for our husbands and a handy tote.
Needless to say, we had fun being silly, eating and crafting...getting the girls together is always a fun time and we are really looking forward to the next gathering.
(The crafts completed at the Pinterest Party can be found here on my Pinterest Party Board)

My name is Lorrel and I am a PINAHOLIC!

I am addicted to Pinterest. I love it so much! I have found I am not alone, and that is why I have decided to throw a Pinterest Party.  Everyone seems to be really excited about it.  The next few nap times will be spent prepping for the party.
So here is how it is going to work:
Invitation-
Come enjoy a night of kid and husband free fun!
A Pinterest Party is just the way to try out some new recipes and crafts.

Everybody must bring one appetizer that they have pinned on their wall and a craft they have pinned as well. Each craft should b...e able to be completed within 30 minutes and each person should bring enough supplies for 4 (one for the person that brings it and 3 for other people to do).
We will do a drawing for the crafts to see who gets to make what. You will walk away with a full belly and 4 things that you can proudly say that you made!
This will be a night of a lot of laughs! I can't wait to see you all!

-I sent this invite out to 12 ladies and wouldn't you know it, 16 people responded (I guess word got around).
-A Pinterest Party Board was started where the girls could post what food item they were bringing and what craft they were going to share.  This allows for no repeats and also for everyone to get familiar with everyone's crafts.  This in turn will cut down on learning time and hopefully let the crafting process go smoothly.
-Each lady was asked to also bring scissors and a glue gun.

Over the next few days I will be working my butt off trying to get the house ready and festive! I cannot wait to see how this turns out!

Hello

  Its nap time.
Today's goal is to finally start a blog.  In doing this, I am ignoring the dishes in the sink, cheerios on the floor and the clutter covering every square inch of my house......and it feels so good.

Let me begin by sharing a little about myself.  I married my best friend and high school sweetheart in 2007 and in 2010 we welcomed our son Jackson.  Jackson has got to be the best thing that has ever happened to us, we are totally in love and amazed that our genes could ever create something so perfect; he is awesome.

My husband and I met and married in the St Louis area, moved to the Chicago area right after we got married and 2 months before Jackson was born we up and moved again to North Carolina.  I love it here.  We have met some good people and great friends and we are very happy with the decision that we made.
Upon moving to NC, I left my job and became a housewife.  Most of my friends doubted whether or not I could hack it as a stay at home mom living in a new state, no family or friends around, no adult interaction throughout the day and no reason to get dressed in the morning.  The truth is, I love my new job.  For me, being a stay at home mom just works.  The fact that I met friends right away who got me involved in M.O.P.S. where I met even more great women has truly helped me substantially (more about MOPS in a later post).
My husband will testify, I am not the cleanest or most orderly person in the world, but I try to have dinner ready for him when he gets home and the house picked up.  My biggest downfall is that I don't manage my time well.  For instance, I don't know how many times I have wasted an entire nap time coming up with some "genius" way to make me productive only to never use it and waste an entire day.  In fact, one day, I took a frame and made it into a weekly checklist whiteboard.  I used it for a whole week and was very proud and then one day I was looking at it and saw that my husband left a message for me.

If you look closely and can read chicken scratch, on the bottom left in black you will see it says, "You don't use this".  I could not deny the fact that another one of my attempts at getting organized had failed, so I laughed and asked him when he wrote it....he said it was so long ago he couldn't remember! Epic Fail!  Its time for a change!
In an attempt to get my nap time production level up to par and make my life more interesting, I am writing this blog in hopes to keep me on track and hold myself accountable by sharing my nap time moments.  My first step was to start the blog.  Now that that is done, I guess I better clean my house...wish me luck!

While the best part of my day is playing with my son, the most productive time is while he is sleeping.  This blog is a way for me to share my nap time moments.  Moments of creativity, inspiration, productivity and whatever else I can do before he wakes up.
